The Junior Accountant plays a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring the smooth operation of accounting processes. By managing bookkeeping tasks, reconciling accounts, and processing financial data, the Junior Accountant contributes to the organization’s compliance with German accounting standards (HGB) and tax regulations.
This role is essential in supporting financial reporting, asset management, and the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, ensuring the company’s financial health and transparency.
RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS
1. Financial Bookkeeping:
• Maintain accurate and timely records of all financial transactions.
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely and accurate entries.
• Update and reconcile the vendor and debtor lists, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Verify, classify, and post incoming invoices with appropriate account assignments.
2. Asset Accounting:
• Carry out asset accounting processes, including valuation and depreciation calculations.
• Ensure asset-related transactions are recorded in compliance with HGB and company policies.
3. Cash Flow Management:
• Track incoming and outgoing cash flows to support liquidity management.
• Assist in the preparation of regular payment runs to ensure timely payments to vendors.
• Reconcile the company’s bank accounts to ensure accurate cash flow reporting.
4. Financial Reporting and Compliance:
• Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in adherence to HGB standards.
• Prepare financial summaries and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with senior accountants to ensure compliance with German accounting and tax laws.
5. Taxation Support:
• Process advance sales tax returns and ensure timely submissions.
• Provide support for tax preparation activities, ensuring compliance with German tax regulations.
• Maintain basic knowledge of German taxation laws to aid accurate bookkeeping and reporting.
6. Vendor and Debtor Management:
• Maintain vendor and debtor master data records.
• Clarify and reconcile vendor accounts to resolve discrepancies promptly.
7. Assistance with Financial and Tax Audits:
• Support the preparation of documents and records for financial and tax audits.
• Provide accurate and organized data for the client areas under the accountant’s responsibility.
