ROLE
The On-Site Design Coordinator plays a critical role in bridging the gap between the design team, the construction team, and the client on the project. This position is responsible for ensuring that the project's design specifications are accurately implemented and that all design issues and technical queries are addressed with the client.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Design Coordination:
• Act as the on-site representative of the design team, ensuring that all aspects of the facade's design intent are fully understood and adhered to during construction.
• Collaborate closely with architects, facade engineers, and other design professionals to align the on-site construction activities with the project's aesthetic and technical requirements.
• Facilitate the integration of design elements into the overall construction plan, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance design quality while maintaining project feasibility.
• Oversee the implementation of any design modifications or refinements, ensuring they are accurately documented, approved by relevant stakeholders, and integrated smoothly into the project.
• Ensure that all design-related communications are clear and consistent, providing detailed guidance to the on-site team to uphold the project's visual and technical standards.
• Organize and participate in design review meetings with project stakeholders, presenting design concepts, discussing potential challenges, and gaining consensus on proposed adjustments
2. Communication and Stakeholder Liaison:
• Perve as the primary point of contact between the design team, engineers, project managers, and the client to facilitate smooth communication and information flow.
• Organize and lead regular meetings with project stakeholders to review progress, address concerns, and ensure alignment on design execution.
• Escalate critical design issues to senior management when necessary, proposing actionable solutions to maintain project momentum.
3. Technical Review and Drawing Analysis:
• Thoroughly review architectural, structural, and shop drawings, checking for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with the project's design specifications.
• Identify potential clashes or discrepancies in the drawings and work with the design team to develop solutions before these issues impact construction.
• Support the preparation and revision of shop drawings as required, ensuring they reflect the latest design changes and on-site conditions.
4. Quality Control and Assurance:
• Implement and enforce quality control measures to address any deviations in the design, documenting issues, and coordinating corrective actions.
• Oversee the submission of the design ensuring that all specifications and quality standards are met, and that all previously faced issues are corrected.
5. Quality Assurance & Compliance:
• Ensure that all façade installations meet the quality standards and design specifications outlined in the project documents.
• Review and approve material samples, mock-ups, and prototypes on-site, ensuring they meet the design and aesthetic standards.
• Monitor compliance with building codes, regulations, and industry standards related to façade construction, ensuring that the design is implemented safely and within regulatory requirements.
6. Issue Resolution and Problem-Solving:
• Proactively identify design-related issues that arise during construction, analyse their root causes, and develop effective solutions in collaboration with the design team.
• Maintain a solutions-oriented mindset, continuously seeking innovative approaches to overcome construction challenges without compromising design quality.
• Minimize project delays and additional costs by quickly resolving design conflicts with the client.
7. Change Management and Documentation:
• Maintain detailed documentation of all design changes, site instructions, and revisions to the facade plans, ensuring that records are up-to-date and accessible to all team members.
• Coordinate the approval process for design changes with stakeholders, obtaining necessary signoffs from project leads and clients.
• Update and distribute revised drawings and documentation to on-site teams, ensuring all parties are working with the latest project information.
8. Progress Reporting and Documentation:
• Prepare regular progress reports detailing the status of the design, key achievements, issues encountered, and corrective actions taken.
• Track project milestones related to the design, comparing actual progress against the project schedule and identifying areas where adjustments are needed.
• Present updates to the management, providing insights into potential risks and recommending strategies to keep the project on track.
9. Team Collaboration and Leadership:
• Foster a collaborative environment on-site, encouraging open communication and teamwork among all parties involved in the facade project.
• Provide guidance and support to the on-site team, offering technical advice and mentoring to less experienced team members.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging feedback and knowledge sharing to enhance design execution processes.
